Child Care Staff

Orange County Mentors for Youth is seeking qualified child care staff to work in an on-call or fulltime position in one of our three residential group homes serving adolescent boys from the ages of 13-17 years of age. Homes are located in Anaheim, Orange and Fullerton. Homes operate on a 24 hour basis. Shifts include 6a-2p, 2p-10p, 10p-7a and may vary as needed.

Child Care Worker Duties (CCW)

  • Performs duties as set forth in Title 22, regulation 84065.
  • Supervision, protection and care of children individually and in groups at all times.
  • Administration of discipline and setting limits for behavior consistent with program guidelines.
  • Fulfills the need of the child for parental guidance.  Directs play, study and learning activities.
  • Promotes Independent Living Skills through teaching and role-modeling.
  • Teaches and monitors daily chores as assigned to each resident.  CCW is responsible to ensure that house cleanliness meets agency expectations.
  • Institutes and supervises in personal hygiene of the residents.
  • Plan and supervise recreational activities.
  • Maintains daily log used to document the shift occurrences, including but not limited to resident whereabouts, anyone entering or leaving the facility, appointments attended and specific activities residents are participating in.
  • Attend staff meetings and outside training as directed.

This is only a partial list of duties and responsibilities.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree in a Human Services Field such as psychology and experience in the child care field either working for previous residential group homes or working with youth in organized activities such as coaching or mentoring.  Work and volunteer experience may substitute for education.

Benefits

Pay Range for fulltime line level child care staff is $20,800 to $31,200, depending on education and experience at time of hire.  Medical and Dental Benefits are available to fulltime staff.

Requirements

Employees must have a current First Aid/CPR certificate; have a current physical including TB test.   Will need to provide a DMV printout, and pass a DOJ clearance.

Mentors for Youth

Our Mission

Orange County Mentors for Youth is a level 12 group home serving adolescent boys from ages 13 through 18. Our goal is to help them become productive young men, able to lead successful adult lives. We work to accomplish this by providing a stable, home-like environment along with the supportive services to help them overcome the obstacles in their lives.

The Program

Orange County Mentors for Youth provides a variety of therapeutic interventions to address the needs of our residents.

  • We provide weekly individual therapy with a licensed psychologist.
  • All residents are assessed for substance abuse issues. A weekly substance abuse group is facilitated by a Marriage and Family Therapist.
  • Residents are also provided Anger Management group therapy as necessary.
  • During the school year a tutor comes to the home two days per week to meet with each resident to ensure they are meeting their educational goals.
  • Those residents requiring psychotropic medication are seen by a psychiatrist at least one time per month.
  • Residents age 15.5 or greater will participate in Independent Livings Skills programing through the Orangewood Children's Foundation and additional ILP activities within the homes.
